Default Wiring for Stock Infinity Amp

I recently bought an Infinity amp from a junkyard out of a 1998 XJ Classic. My Jeep didn't come with an amp, but I've heard all Cherokees were wired for every option. I was wondering if there is a plug for the amp somewhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you look under the back seat where the amp is on the ones that came from the factory?

I did, but I couldn't see anything obvious. I didn't know if it was tucked away somewhere weird.

Some Classics and I think all Limiteds came from the factory with an upgraded Infinity sound system, including an amp located underneath the driver's side rear seat.

My Classic did not come with the Infinity system, but I got an amp out of a '98 Classic from the JY for only $25. I'm just trying to figure out if I need to have a place that does installs wire it for me, or if there is a plug/harness that it just simply plugs into.

My 97 limited zj, and my old Zj before that had it under the seat, on drivers side, is there not spot that looks like ot was ever there? If so I bet the wires are just tucked under the carpet unless PO yanked it out....

Not sure if this was figured out or not, but I ran into this today. My '00 Limited did NOT have the infinity sound system (it was still on OPTION even on the high trim packages) but I found an XJ that had it at the JY today. I grabbed the door tweeters and the amp, but before I purchased the amp I looked really good and the wiring harness and how it was connected. Then I went out and looked at my XJ and it's a different harness completely so I left the amp there. I'm going to go back and look more closely now that I've reviewed the wiring diagrams and such, but in order to plug in the OEM amp you'll have to either splice it inline with the speaker wires manually (big mess), or swap the main body wiring harness. Big PITA if you ask me so I probably won't do it. I want to go back and look at how the speakers are fed from the harness though as I don't know if just the amp wires can be pulled from the harness and installed into another or not. The wiring harnesses are also different based on the parts catalog. There's three variants: base model; power windows/lock w/o premium sound; and power windows/locks w/premium sound.

The harness has to either be different OR there would have to be a harness with a plug under the seat where the amp is that would have both the male/female sides of the plug together. If the second option then the plug would be unplugged and the amp plugs into one side.

These would be the only two ways that the speaker connections could be rerouted from the radio to the amp for swapping to the Infinity system.

I hope that make sense.

I suspect you would have to have the head unit as well, has anyone determined whether the amp accepts line or speaker level input? And with all that work, you are still left with a rather lackluster factory unit. Easier & less expensive to rip out all the old & replace with new.

The amp takes has the speaker lines as inputs. Instead of connector C200 splitting and going to the various speakers it goes to the amp, and then the amp redirects to all the speakers (though I'm not sure yet how the wiring is routed. The amp is just put inline with the speaker wires between the HU and the speakers. Don't think you need any particular head unit the way it's hooked up.

I wonder...
If the plug for the back of the radio dictates which sound system came from the factory?

When I bought my XJ there was a sony head unit tapped into the stock wiring with the OE plug intact.

I recently bought a stock Infinity Head unit from the junk yard and it plugged in and worked instantly. Also bought the Infinity tweeters from a junk yard, plugged them in and worked... But I haven't noticed an amp or wiring for it any near my back seat.

If there is an amp, the wires from the radio would have to go to the amp then to the speakers- correct?
So it would have to have two sets of plugs?
One for direct output to the speakers and another that sent the signal to the amp AND then in the doors... would also have to have two sets of plugs, one directly from the radio and another with the amplified power from the amp.

I'm making sense???
