Wiring Diagram draining battery
Hello, my Jeep is draining the battery over night. It seems to be coming from the Radio/power doorlocks wiring. By removing the 20A fuse from the fuse box under the hood, it stops the drain. I bought the Jeep with this problem and the previous owner installed an aftermarket radio. I'm going to go through it, but I'd like the wiring diagram for a 96 Cherokee. I found a complete one online for 97+, but it's completely different then mine. Any help would be great. Also when the 20A fuse is in, a small silver cylinder which is wired in under the dash gets really hot, even with the Jeep off.

I have the same problem - and have no idea what that silver canister/battery-looking thing is, but it actually burned my arm when I was under the dash - that's how I discovered it. Any news on what that could be and why it is like 300 degrees?

I think I found the cause - It has something to do with the dome lights - I had my jeep doors open (1995 XJ Country) - for several hours and that thing was cooking hot. I closed all the doors, and it gradually got cooler.... to the point where it is normal temperature now. IDKWTF it is, or why it cooks when the doors are open - but that may help. Does anyone know what it is and how to mitigate the issue/? Should I try installing LED lights to draw less current through that thing?

Can you use the aftermarket stereo even when the key is off? Check this link and see if the wiring matches in your '96 http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...tail/1210.html

I had the same problem with my 98. I found that the under hood light wasn't turning off when the hood was closed. I just unplugged the light and the problem went away. I hope your problem is as simple as that.
