Read and article saying the wires from the alternator and battery were too small which could cause stalling. Basically a lack of power. The thread recommended
2-AWG, 300 amp, 680 strand welding cable to replace the wires.
Has anyone heard of this?

It depends on what you are doing with your Jeep.
Stock cables will work for a STOCK Jeep that is used as a DD. They may not be the best, but they will usually work.
If you want to upgrade cables, you can upgrade to 4 gauge cables for a DD. That would be more than enough, and should last fine as long as there is no corrosion that develops.
If you have high draw items such as a high powered stereo with amp and subwoofer, or a winch, or a ton of lights, then 2 gauge would be the best bet.
For a stock vehicle, 2 gauge is just a little bit too much overkill. When I upgrade mine, I am most likely going to use 4 gauge cable.
BE AWARE, not all cable that says 4 gauge or 2 gauge, is really what it says it is. Some cable companies will use less copper and give you thicker insulation. There is a guy on here who sells them (XJ wonders), and if I was unable to make my own, I would buy his in a heartbeat.

Do it quick cause he is closing shop.
Factory alternator or an upgraded one up to 150 amps.
His 4 gauge set up will be just fine.
Upgraded alternator anything about that go 2 gauge.
