Windshield wipers on my 2000 XJ work fine, however, the driver's side blade moves beyond the left upper edge of the windshield frame and this is starting to tear the rubber on the blade. The at rest position appears correct, the blades are the proper length and there doesn't seem to be any slop in the linkage. Any thoughts?

Turn on your wipers and kill the engine just as the driver side wiper maxes out (tip leaves the windshield) Then remove the arm and put it back on one tooth over, so it stays on the glass.

I have the identical problem on my 98. I suspect that the pins and/or bushings on the linkage under the cowl are worn. The next question would be are there replaceable bushings or is it a drill and weld project? Chances are that a junkyard linkage would be worn, too. Wonder if anyone has done a fix on this problem.
Update on the bushings; Dorman part# 49447 A blister pack containing bushing assortment for 1997 -2001 Cherokee XJ

i had 2 jeeps that did the same thing, its a simple fix just replace the bushings, they come in a plastic box that says Dorman help on it. It comes with a few different styles but you just use what you need. I cant remember exactially what the box says but if you remove the old ones and take them in its easy to match them.

The HELP section of any parts store will have the bushings for less than ten bucks. Just be careful when installing them that you don't break them and put some grease in the ball socket of the bushings.

i used a block of wood and a hammer to remove the old ones and install the new ones, there made of a hard plastic. Once they were in i sprayed them good with a white lithium grease and there working great to this day
