Default Wiper arm question

Did any XJs ever come with wiper arms that can be left up (e.g. pull all the way away from the windshield, they go over center, and can be left that way?) We got freezing rain last night so before I came in from work I went to pull the wipers up so they didn't freeze to the windshield, guess what, can't do it!

If it wasn't stock on any year, are there any arms like that that interchange?

thanks!

Idk but its a damn good question. Mine are always frozen lately too. Something has got to work.

FWIW I like silicone wiper blades... have 'em on my F-150 which has the same old school can't put 'em up wiper arms. They weren't frozen today (we made a run to take some junk... I mean good stuff we are no longer using... to Goodwill so we fired up the F-150, which I can't wait to get rid of even if it runs OK) but I apparently inadvertantly left them on the last time I drove it, fortunately I didn't strip the splines or break anything. D'oh. I *think* they are the same size as an XJ so I would swap them over but I have to make sure I can (Ford uses a pin mount while the Jeep looks like the ones I had on all my German cars... not sure what that mount is called. They're aspensive, about $20 apiece IIRC but they are the feline's posterior. I have a whole baggie full of leftover wiper arm adapters... somewhere...)

I guess in a pinch you can use TP tubes or something under the arms at night, but that seems a little doglick.

I don't think any of them can be left up. I have always thought that was a bad design.

Pull the wiper up as far as you an and there is a little tab at the base that you can pull out until it holds it up. Nor very far but it works

I never knew that and this is my fourth XJ that I have owned. Very good to know.

good stuff! and timely too... was just noticing that it was snowing out when I read this. I thought the little tab was to allow the arms to be pulled off but I guess it has other uses too

Now since you guys are so good. How do I tell what rotors to order for my '99 since both yesterday and today it's been cold and some sort of water based substance has been constantly falling from the sky whenever we've had daylight :/
