I have the Smittybilt Xrc-8 on my 97 Jeep cherokee. Its rated to pull 8k LBS. Its pretty cost efficient too, 300 bucks. pulls mine out of everything without a hassle. What kind of jeep do u have?

oh never mind, didn't see your model. If you want a lower priced winch this is the cheapest one i could get, its not the best but it works great, had it for 2 years and still running fine. I use it often. Here is a link http://www.quadratec.com/products/92122_1000_07.htm its actually on sale right now. Oh and its spelled winch

4,000 pounds is probably not the way to go. I mean think about it, your jeep weighs probably 3500 or so and when its stuck it takes a little more to pull it out. I don't even think they make a winch for a vehicle that low, thats more for 4-wheelers. 8,000 for the smittybilt, thats a good winch, and it would save u 100 bucks. only 300. way better than a 4lb. Dont do it, you will regret it

well the general rule is..typically manufacturers and resellers will suggest you should calculate the winch rating by taking the gross vehicle weight and multiplying it by 1.5 and that would be your minimum winch size.
