Window only works when door is open?
I have a 96 xj 4door, every switch in the truck has always worked great. About a month ago my drivers side window stopped working while the door is shut. I noticed when you open the door about half way or more it works fine?
I finally got a nice day today to look at it and everything looks good inside the grommet with all the wires running into the door from truck. I also took the plugs off the back of the switch and cleaned them up and threw some bulb grease on I had laying around and that didn't help.
Anybody have this issue before? It's pretty odd and don't know what to look at next?

When you checked the wires in the rubber boot did you just visually check them. Unless you have x-ray vision looking at the wires will tell you nothing. You need to check the wires with a multimeter to tell you if you have a bad wire in the wire insulation.

Yeah I just visually looked but everything looked good as in no signs of ware or anything. I know anything is possible it just seemed odd that only my door and window are affected. I guess I'll have to go in with a multimeter and check every wire...

Ok I dug into it last night and kinda feel like an idiot as I was looking in the wrong spot the whole time Lol. I thought it had something to do with the wires going through the door into the truck.
Well the issue was with the drivers window, so I pulled the door panel apart and noticed the spade connector inside the plug which goes into the window motor had snapped in half.
It was still in the plug so when I would open the door it pushed the wire up to make the connection, when I would shut the door it would pull the wire back down disconnecting it...
So I cut the plug off and put 2 new spade ends on and plugged them into the motor, its better than new now! Just thought I would update...
