harbor freight is ok if you only use it ocasionally, but you get what you pay for...save the headach and get a quallity winch, warn 8000 will last a long time, parts are easy to find and it will pull an xj through just about anything...

Ya if you had front and rear lockers in that situation you would probably be fine. I've done the same thing when I slid into a 36" tires rut. Passenger side was sunk in and spinning, driver side was sitting dry on flat land. It the stupidist stuck situation I've been in. But I had the winch so I pulled right out with it, no need for being pulled out by toy

I'm gonna run my XRC8000 until it dies and then I'll get an XRC10,000. This winch is tuff, though. I use it and abuse it and then just let it sit out in the rain. Looks like it will be a long time until I will get the chance to upgrade to an XRC10,000.

I'm plannin on getting an XRC10 after I get a detours backbone system. With 2WD I risk gettin stuck every time I go out, and it's only a matter of time before I get into a situation my comealong won't get me out of, lol. Come on tax return, I don't even have the money yet and it's already burnin a hole in my pocket!

2wd huh? That's cool. I used to wheel my lifted 2wd dodge dakota and was ALWAYS taking the strap in the deep stuff. I had to get 4x4 after that.

It's definitely a good buy but if you look around you can sometimes find the Warn M8000 for around $500 and although it's $200 more I would rather have Warn's reputation when I need it. That being said; I'm considering the XRC8 simply because a friend won one in a raffle and would sell it to me cheap - cheap enough to sway me from a Warn...

Here's some reading on winches...
