I have a 2000 XJ with the 4.0L and here is why I may need therapy:
It sat in Florida for several months before it was started up and driven onto a trailer to transport it to Connecticut. Once arriving in Ct, it would not start so they pushed it off the trailer. I found that the battery was dead. So I hooked up a battery charger to jump it and it did nothing but crank. So I replaced the crank position sensor and it did nothing to fix it. I replaced the wiring harness to the gauges that commonly gives the "No Bus" issue. This did nothing. I found that the alternator has seized up solid so I replaced that to no avail. Now it still just cranks and cranks but doesn't start. The key remote no longer works, the door switch will unlock the doors but not lock them, the odometer screen is completely blank and the interior lights don't work. any ideas will be a great help.

The important question here is do you still see the NO BUS on the dash?
If you do, you have something on the computer bus that is shorted. It could be any of the 5 volt engine management sensors OR it could be the computer itself.

check the under-hood fuses & relay panel near rt shock tower. When my son & I bought our 99 Cherokee it would turn over but not start. The prev owner said it had "bad gas". Got it home & looked at the under-hood fuse/relay panel and noticed very few fuses or relays installed. I bought the required relays & an assortment of fuses and filled the panel up...it started on the first try...something could bve blown, or at least re-seat all the fuses & relays to clean the connections.
Cheers!!

Just a thought, but sometimes when you leave a car or anything for that matter in one place for a long period you can get mice moving in and they like to eat cables and rubber.
Other than that I here the salt air in Florida is quite corrosive so might be an idea to check some main elec connectors.
