The look the same. The 98 starter has a diameter of 74mm and the 99 is 75 mm. The 98 is a bit longer at 229mm and the 99 is 207 mm long.
Will the 98 fit the 99? its like half the price!
Sometimes my starter wont do anything and wont make a noise unless I get out and tap on it, and after it does start sometimes it seems like it is not disengaging completly and it makes a horrible rattle against the flywheel unless I get out and tap on it.

I tore the thing down and two of the four brushes are toast they will not move at all. I cant find anyone that sells brush repair kits locally. I did find a garage that will rebuild it in one day for $70 so I will probably go that route. Its my daily driver so I cant really wait for parts to be delivered. I am going to order a spare solenoid and brush repair kit to have on hand in case this B.S. happens again.
