if you dont want to destroy it then I wouldnt wheel it. Sounds to me you want it to be lifted because it looks cool.

regarding the tires. BFG allterrain will fit your needs. your rig will see the road 99 percent of the time so why buy an aggressive tire that will wear so much quicker

for a street rig I wouldnt buy a Interco tire. They are meant for the trail, wear super quick on the road and your rig will see 99% road. see my post on the tire you should be looking for

it won't be 99% on road, I have a car for the road
when I say I don't want to destroy it, it means I don't intend to put it in trails that have a very high level of difficulties, maybe do 6 or 7 out of 10 grade trail (figure of speach)
I want it to be usable on road but capable in trails, it will be more like a 50/50 thing

by what was said earlier, mud trails were more armful to a rig then rocky trails
if that assomption is also wrong then what is it???

tires, look at bfg km2 or the new MTR kevlar. Mud trails vs rock trails........ Mud sucks to clean out. wears out ujoints, TRE, and diffs. rock trails ruin ujoints, TRE, diffs. They both tear up suspensions and axles. You will spend alot of $$ in this sport.

you need to hook up with a 4x4 club in your area. ride shotgun and see if you really want to spend the $$ it takes. do lots and lots of research.

I am doing research,
my xj project will be completed (or mostly, we always want to change something) within a year or two, I don't plan to hit the trail blindfolded
and I know there will be cost to pay doing this sport, I intend to reduce that said cost by building up a good rig that wont break on the first bump

my subscription to this forum is one great help to amass a maximum of info, not the only one but the best source so far, need all I can get

Also check out these tires, I have 25K on a set and expect 40K
Mostly street but the few times I've took them in the mud/rocks trails I have been impressed

i have a 6.5 RC with 33s and i does need bigger tires my fenders are trimmed little bit but i want to put 35s on but the lift itself rides pretty rough but anything that high isnt going to be great but heyy i like it and cant complain and my pics are taken with the sway bar still connects and it gets pretty good flex

If you plan on taking it off road, you should expect to break stuff. Not saying you will every time, but you should be prepared to. As for tires, I just got my XJ and it has a 3" lift and had 35x12.50x15's on it.....yes the fenders are cut and the 35's tread got eat up and cut by the fenders when flexing. I just bought a set of BFG A/T 33's and they fit awesome, not to mention the mileage they'll get. If you really want a decent off road tire I'd say look at the Pro Comp Xterrain's (what was on mine). Another issue to think about is rubbing on the sway bar when making turns with a 13.50, heck my 12.50's need spacers now.
