Default Why u should repair your inner boot seal on the ax15...

I got on here looking for the inner boot seal for my 90 comanche the other day and found a write up... Pics were all gone but part numbers and links were good...

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/sh...rebuild-28766/

I was planning to just get the boot only... When i read about the tranny seal i checked mine and it was bad as well... So i said screw it... Ill order all this stuff and do it all while its apart... Good thing i did...

Heres what the main bushing is suppose to look like (first pic with new bushing installed) and a pic of what was left of the old one (the black crud around the outside edge)... I guess it disappeared into the tranny... Which is of course not good... So if ur inner boot is bad im sure everything else is... Took about a hour and wasnt hard at all...

Thanks Travis I have an AX 15 from a YJ and it was shipped to me and I have not opened the crate. I will now check that seal when I open it. I have another 2WD AX in it now with good gears and sychronizers in it to use if needed.

this is a part that wares every time you shift gears... that anybody can replace and if not taken care of i think it could cause issues internally as it falls down in the tranny and clogs stuff up... just think its something most should look at... my MJ had 140k and is a 1990... and it was pretty much gone to the point where i thought at first i lost the old one... then realized this was all that was left...

you can check yours Mike without replacing parts... takes 2 minutes since its already out... once you pull the rubber seal on the tranny itself around the stick theres a metal upside down bowl... cut like a oval around the stick... this is what he refers to to push down on and spin counter clockwise with two fingers... you wouldnt know to do this looking at it... i tried prying it up first till i reread what he said and made sense of it without pics...
