I agree with everyone here (of course).
I've owned my 98 XJ since Decmeber 1999, bought it with about 18,000 miles on it and now she sits with over 130,000 Don't get me wrong, there were some mechanic bills along the way (my own fault for not following the gut instinct of becoming one myself when I was deciding what to be "When I grew up", but I'm working on remedying that now, lol). I love that girl, and I will never part with her if I can help it.
I agree that the bug will bite you...I was so upset when they discontinued them in favor of those Libertys, and when it came time this past fall to semi-retire my girl to back up status, and we wanted a brand new car, we went with an 09 Patriot for one real reason over all others (It looks so much like my XJ compared to everything else out there.)
Gas mileage isn't wonderful, but it's not bad either, and, I agree, as I have taken over doing as much of the repair/maintence as I can on her, parts are VERY easy to find, and even new parts aren't that expensive. I totally recommend you getting one, or else, I think some people here will find you and...
, lol. But seriously, I have never known anyone who had one and regretted it.

. as Q.W said in the vid they are reliable, cheap to fix and have a good stong fan base with plenty of people all round the world willing to help. and the spec on stockers is fantastic, go buy a range rover with all the toys on it, you will spend a fortune and wont get the reliability.
