Why not make it possible to remove lifters without removing head with a bigass drill?
After installing a new head and now needing to replace the cam, I was wondering if we could drill out the holes where the pushrods go through and remove the lifters without removing the head. Hmmmm.

Just pull the damn head off and do it right. Drilling is a stupid idea and would only ruin things with metal shavings inside the engine. Lazy will alway cost more than doing the job the right way.
I suppose you could drill the head while it's off - if there's enough meat - but then you would have to make some guide plates for the pushrods.
I don't know why the 4.0 doesn't have side covers like some of the older sixes I've worked on... that would make life a lot easier...
