Ok so I read the other thread about how to get the "part time" light to work.
I unplugged the switch from the transfer case and put the paper clip on the contacts and the dash light came on, Good then it must be the switch...wrong. I just replaced the switch and plugged it in, shifted to 4WD and nothing...no light.
So what do you think is the problem? What part exactly enables the switch in the Tcase? And could said part have broken?
The 4WD works fine HI and LO, I've even gone through removing the rear drive shaft just to be sure.
I know its only a stupid light but I want it to work!
Please help, Thanks

you need a 242 transfer case for this light to turn on. it has a part time 4 high range. the 231 does not. it is a futile battle if you have a 231.

The green positions are for full time use, while the orange/yellow should be part time yes?
If I had a 4wd full time option then It should look like this correct?

NP231 transfer cases are part time four wheel drive with shift positions 4HI - 2HI - N - 4L. The NP231 is 1:1 direct drive in high range, and use planetary reduction gears for low range with a ratio of 2.72:1.
NP242 is a chain driven full time transfer case with a 48/52 torque split front and rear. It is possible to lock it into four low so it acts like a part-time transfer case. When it is locked in, power will be split regardless of traction. Low range is 2.72 and high is 1.00.

Ok this is a confusing thread.
Why does the NP 231 T-Case have a switch and a plug that runs to the "part time" light in the dash if it apparently doesn't light it up?

The 231 (in your XJ) is a PART TIME transfercase, meaning it's only used part of the time in 4WD.

So then the brand new switch I bought was already bad?
