Went to the fridge. Got an Inversion IPa and then went to the glovebox of the MJ where there is a high altitude cPS made by ........Siemens.

Yep. You've got it. I'm in touch with my inner Renix self.

I knew it!

Actually, it makes perfect sense. A Renix, after all, is the definition of manliness: It won't whine loudly or tell you without invitation that there's a problem, just grumble and get on with life. Not much of a begruding memory, it makes due with the situation and carries on, doing the best it can. Easy to keep happy and straight forward to figure out with a couple of basic tools.

I bet the school shrink didn't know what to make of you because they didn't have a DRB-II.

The school shrink met with me only one time. Since then, he's been in a straight jacket, confined to a padded cell in the looney bin.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread. I changed my CPS a few months ago as it was dying when I put it in reverse. I think the trans was shifting and moving the sensor away from the right spot. The new CPS stopped that problem but the engine has run rough since then and I think it's related to the CPS. I've got an '87 Laredo but the engine is a '91. I noticed that the part numbers are different for those years (and also the connectors). Mine is using the flat three pin connector (only 2 pins used).
Rock Auto has a high-altitude CPS (Airtex) and I'm tempted to try that but wondered if others have had this rough running issue with a CPS.

I've got relatively new plugs, wires, cap etc. I've swapped injectors around and it just seems to run rough at around 1300 RPM.

Thanks for any help / advice.

I don't understand this high altitude CPS monkey motion. Is that a Realnuts...I mean...Renix thing?

It's 700 ft. above sea level here in the great city of Canton, Michigan, so WTF good would a high altitude CPS do me?

Compared to Death Valley, that's high (LOL!) This Jeep is the most frustrating vehicle I've ever owned but I picked it up for basically free almost two years ago and it's running a lot better than it did when I got it.

Yes, Realnuts. The sensor pickup is in a different spot on the bracket, foling the ECU into thinking the timing is more retarded than it actually is. Can be done on an HO also.

Are the Standard Motor cps units good for the HO engines as well? They are $40~ on rockauto. Or should I go to a dealer? For my 99 xj...

I don't know on your 99, but the PC 307 on RockAuto is made by the OEM supplier to Jeep. And it's the high altitude version.

yeah the PC307 is made by Standard as well, and the part number for the later models is PC308, so I imagine it'll be a good match.

As I understand it it forces the ECU to advance the timing. Unlike the boneheaded Chrysler unit the Renix noggin has a knock sensor so the ECU is free to retard the timing if any issues are observed.

The "AutoZone" part should be a pretty good indicator...
