Default Where to mount Fire Extinguisher

I bought a metal nozzle fire extinguisher for my XJ. Where is a good place to mount it?

I haven't heard of the XJ being prone to randomly catching on fire. I'd put it in a bin in the trunk.

Maybe in the engine compartment? When it gets hot enough it blows up and puts out the fire..........you won't have to do a thing.

Mount it where it will be easily, and quickly reached in the event of a fire. The closer, the better. But mounted so its not in the way. If its small enough, next to, or in front of the driver seat, or just behind the driver seat. Or even in front of the passenger seat. Wherever. In the back is an option, which is where i see lots of them, but you better be quick as lightning getting to it when things get real.

I agree with this..and will add one more thing...keep a woolen blanket in your car,,,many uses, but the most important one is if there is a fire, it can stop you getting serious burns,to hands, face, airways etc

If you have an engine bay fire for instance, the safety advice is dont open the bonnet...a fire blanket of some kind is your only option, chuck it on, smothers the fire, extinguish it

By that do you mean one that has the glass tube on it which breaks automatically when it gets too hot due to a fire?

If so I'm not sure where you could mount it but make sure it's of the correct temperature rating if going in the engine bay as they get rather hot in there under normal running.

I read somewhere that what some call the hood insulator actually is meant to smother an engine bay fire. I don't know what the material is but I know it doesn't burn.

When my Monte Carlo went up in flames, all that hood insulator did was keep the hood paint from burning until both tires exploded. My thought about where to mount a fire extinguisher would be on thin breakaway ties between the driver's seat and the door. I had one clipped to the door pillar next to the driver's seat in my Chevy 4x4, but never needed it.

I have mine mounted to my D pillar and have wanted to move it closer to the driver's seat. They say you don't carry an extinguisher for yourself, you carry it for the person next to you, and they carry one for you. I would be looking at mounting it in front/besides the driver's seat.
