Where to buy?
I want to buy a new oil pressure sending unit for my '91 XJ. The 'replacement' I bought from AutoZone is crap; the needle will wiggle inconsistantly up and down, ranging from a 1-3 psi difference to as much as 10 psi changes. I called my local Jeep dealer, and they insist all they can find is a $12 sender, which I am 100% sure is for the dummy light. I tell them I have a gauge, they say 'oh well'. So, where do ya'll get your replacement senders from? I want to be as close to OEM as possible. Thanks!

You should consider that maybe your oil pressure is changing that much or maybe you have wiring issues like a bad ground, broken wire etc.

I have actually just bought one from autozone too. THEY sold me the Dummy Light. However, my reading was just spiked >80 the entire time. So the fact that you get readings makes me think you have the right one.
I went and bought one from Advanced Auto and it has been solid so far. I have heard a lot of guys say buy a quality one though as it is well worth the money. I'll send the link to my other thread that had all the info

Here ya go man. This might help you when you buy a new one and compare. They might have sold you the wrong one and that might be why you get those readings. But i'm not an expert... So good luck!

I buy plenty of aftermarket parts, but the oil pressure sending unit is one piece of hardware that I always buy directly from the dealer. It is worth the extra money in providing the best reliability/accuracy/mating with your factory gauge.
There are plenty of threads of people with problems with some (not all to be fair) aftermarket oil pressure sending units. A few guys have had to try up to three aftermarket sending units before they bailed out and went to the dealer for this part.
I personally have had reliability issues with aftermarket sending units, so won't use them or recommend them any longer. I have also used my mechanical gauge to check accuracy on some aftermarket sending units and have seen some pretty disturbing pressure variations on some of them, which went away with a Jeep unit.
