I purchased a 2001 XJ two years ago with 120k miles on a rebuilt engine. Its not a daily driver, but I want to stay on top of the maintenance. Suggestions?
If they weren't replaced when the engine was rebuilt then they're probably due for replacement. It can't hurt to replace as long as you do so with quality parts.
Give it a tuneup if you are unsure of its service history. Check all fluids and top them off if needed. Check tire pressures, u-joints, remove and clean the grounds. If you dont drive it often, keep tabs on the battery.
If you've never looked at the spark plugs, you should at least pull them to see their color, contaminants (if any) and amount of wear. You might also want to do a compression check so you can establish a history. I just picked up a 2000 XJ with 110K miles, and one of the first things I did was replace the coil pack (NGK) and plugs (Bosch Iridium). Runs noticeably strong with just those two changes.
