Default wheeling bang up

so while wheeling today i was on a trail that was on the tight side and while turning with the curve i cut it a bit short and side swiped a tree got a very small dent on my passnager side door but my side window totally shattered, does anyone know why this may have happend or is it just pure bad luck on my end? the tree never touched the window. like i said just a small dent in the door right where the handle is. still opens and closes fine just the window is now mia and i have plastic wrap taped on till i can get it fixed this week

Was your window up or down at the time?

Side glass is designed to shatter into small "safe" pieces if the window gets flexed too much or gets hit.

Window up: Most likely the door flexed enough to flatten the curve out of the glass tracks and shattered it.

Window down: The door skin came inward far enough to shatter the glasss either directly or by flattening the tracks.

Here's the craziest I've seen:

Got in my car (64 Plymouth Valiant Note: straight, flat window glass in good tracks), closed the door normally (you didn't need to slam it because you could close it from a half catch by pulling on the armrest!) on a 50 degree day (can't even blame cold weather) and the driver's door window showered all over me. Had to call in late to work to get the "crumbs" off me and the seat so I could drive it.

When your door was flexing, that is getting its dent, the frame that holds the window was pushing at a bottom corner. That is all it takes. Side glass will take hammer blows in the middle, but a little pressure on the corner will cause ti to shatter.

yeah do it your self i did my front window regulator in about 45 minutes and that included removing the glass and reinstalling it it is pretty easy the rear might take a little longer since there is not as much free space in the rear door as the front

are you talking about the rear door or the front door the front is easy just lower the track most of the way down until you can see the bolts holding the window to the track and take them off put the new window in and replace the bolts
