I'm thinking of putting some bedliner on mine. I saw an XJ that had the same style wheels I had, but with the bedliner on it and it looked pretty darn good.

I used the heavy duty paint stripper available at advance auto parts to get rid of the factory paint on my wheels, it worked great! Then I sanded them down so the primer would have a good surface to adhere to. Applied 3 coats of self etching primer allowing the proper time to dry between coats. Then 4-5 coats of Rustoleum Rust Tough gloss black paint also giving the recommended time between coats. Maybe it was a bit of overkill but I dried them in a contained area with one of my industrial dehumidifiers at work for at least two hours before i handled them and they turned out awesome. They have held up to repeated abuse since then. always shining up nicely when I wash them. Good luck on restoring your rims, doing it yourself seems to add so much more value than just buying new ones.

Don't we build XJ's for overkill?

I've been seriously considering cleaning the #### outta the aluminum Outlaws that are on my Cherokee right now then warming them up really good to get all the moisture gone and spraying them with some Herculiner in a flat "soft" black or grey.

Anybody tried that with aluminum wheels??

Default Herculiner on Alum. wheels

I trying to be cheap and get the look of the expensive new black matte teflon coated wheels with out breaking the bank doing it.

Just an idea I had, might not be worth it, just thinking outloud.

Jeeps look better when they look like they're actually used anyway.
