Let's see last I checked I'm getting neat 21 MPG highway but only near 15 MPG city in my 1994 XJ with about 210,000 miles on it. Using a 99+ intake manifold and Ford #19 fuel injectors.

2000 Cherokee Sport, right at 105,000 miles on it, and I'm getting about 18 to 18.5 mpg back and forth to work and about 19.5 mpg on a road trip (back full of stuff and more stuff in the back seat - we never seem to go anywhere unless we take two times as much stuff as we're likely to need.)

My '99 with the 4.0, AW4 and 3:55 axles with stock 225/75/15's and a 2" lift gets just under 17 mpg with a mixture of city anf highway driving.
I've only owned it a couple months and have put less than 2500 miles on it. I installed the Accel tune up kit and changed all fluids. Less than 1000 miles ago, I installed 784 injectors. It seems to still be running a bit rich. I plan to change the front O2 sensor soon and see if that makes a difference.
I just put a bottle of Auto RX in it about 500 miles ago. This might help with fuel economy, I hope. I'd like to see more like 20 mpg with a little better on the highway.

My old 4.0 87 Laredo got 20 mpg and I was average on the throttle -not pushing it but not driving like grandma- plus I do mostly highway miles where I'm from, but my 86 Wagoneer with the 2.8.
I hate the 2.8. I don't know why They ever used that engine. Rated at 95 hp and 16 mpg, whereas the 2.5 Iron Duke got 20ish mpg for the same power... I went through >$100 a week in gas with that
Wagoneer.
Now, I got another 87 4.0 and I'm expecting the same, plus I'm upgrading it with EV6 fuel injectors and everything I can to get better mpg.
