Might look and sound like an idiot, but I was taking the plastic bumper sides off and found this thing?

That's the infamous vacuum bottle that everyone refers to when the climate controls seem to stop working inside. You can leave it there or re-located it to under the hood, but you must have it if you are using the climate controls. Word of caution..the vacuum lines to that may be brittle, so be gentle.

They probably tried to stick it on the tire first, figured out it wouldn't work and then were like "IVE GOT IT! We shall put it here!" *mad scientist laugh*

And they still don't? Look at the Toyota FJ Cruiser... it looks like an obese jeep with downs syndrome... Little squinty headlights so close together....

It's commonly called a baby jeep egg. lol. But it is the vacuum canister previously referred to and your mixer valve will not work without it. If you never need defrost, heat and I think AC, take it out and plug the lines, otherwise it fits on the firewall by the mixer valve with a little finesse and some duct hanging strap real nice.

In case of emergencies and failed water crossings, it can be used as a flotation device. Godspeed to those who didn't remove their bumper caps first!
