you get what you pay for.....i would stay away from cotton guaze filters Like K&N for everyday/trail use. I personally like the AEM Dry Flow Synthethic Brute force system. If your on a budget like all of us look into the Ported throttle body first its 90bucks and makes a Big difference from what ive read.

The concept of a cold air intake is that that it doesn't take in engine compartment air that's hot which defeats the hole purpose. THe rusty's setup is open to the engine compartment and therefor will suck in hot air. You want one that blocks as much hot air as possible. THe stock box has a tube the sits by a hole in the grill to allow air to flow in and restricts the amount of hot air coming in. Use something like that but with a cone filter which will suck in more air but make sure it's enclosed and not open to the hot air of the engine compartment otherwise you'd be better off buying another mod.

Like 98 JeepJeep said stay away from the cotton gauze style like K&N as they will not filter dirt and well dirt in the engine doesn't sound healthy for the motor. So stick to something like what AMSOIL sells or a paper cone filter not a very porous gauze style like what K&N and such use.

We use K&N on our helicopters and they work great, we never had any problems with sand in our engines. Although they do hold a great deal of dirt in them and have to be cleaned about every 40 hours to work properly. Next time I am over there and we pull one off I'll take some pics at the amount of dirt they stop. But I am pretty sure these are alot better quality than the ones for auto's.
