Death rattle is not an engine problem it is related to the front end. A common problem on Jeeps. Typical culprits are tire balancing, and the steering stabilizer. Check those first.

i am searching and yes finding good info but not a clear cut answer. like this year out of these vehicals will work. but im pretty sure grand cherokee wj 4.0 are out. They have different accessories and something a bout metric and standard bolts and engine mounts. and 4.0 before the HO are out. i think YJ and TJ might be possible and that the 8th digit of the vin has to be "S". so this is what i know so far. i dont know anything about zj 4.0s yet. and since i have a 99 i would have the new style intake. but that seems to bolt on to olders 4.0s so as long a i can just bolt stuff on im okay with that. but no its not the death wobble its a rattle. and it will rattle once when you rev up and again when it idles back down. and its got no oil pressure once warmed up. and over heats within 30min of driving.

Any shortblock or longblock 4.0 HO will swap in. 1992(?)-2001 for sure and possibly as late as 2006. 2006 was the last of the 4.0L I-6 used in Wrangler.

You can use any block like stated above you just need to use your 2000 xj head (replace if never done with the new 0331 casting ,2001 up to 2004 or 06 will work or just a new replacement head) also you must use your 2000 xj acc. also.Thats pretty much it, others will tell you you can use a differant head casting than the 0331, you can but they dont have the bolt holes for the coil pack, the bolts are also part of the ground for the cp.doing this will prevent you from trying to niger rig up a half azzed bracket also, remember do it right do it once good luck

You could probably save yourself at least $500 by fixing what's wrong with the engine. What kind of a rattle is it? Does it come from the top end of the engine or from the bottom? You could pull the motor (since you're considering it anyway) and take off the oil pan and head to check things out. Might be rocker arms or just one bad piston.
