Is that in the rear or front? either way I would think it would be a hookup maybe for your license plate bulbs.

I just went out and looked at mine I have an 01 xj, mine also has that just sitting there in the middle not connected to anything. Tried to see where it goes looks like it runs up to a main harness on the left side by the fuses, not a clue what its for though. If its for airbag sensor wouldnt it hook up to something? or is that what tells the airbags to go off? if it gets smashed?

Well I just binged "jeep cherokee air bag sensor location" and found lots of stuff say that it the sensor isnt one of those bag poping ones but a sudden deceleration one and its located under the dash. Which leads me to believe that I might be a plug for a outside temp sensor maybe?

I have the same on a 00. i looked it up in the fsm and i think its the cruise control speed sensor harness. My jeep doenst have cruise and according to my build sheet it never did. my guess is its part of the factory wiring reguardless if you have that option.

i've traced the wires (continuity tester/toner)... goes to the fuse box (PDC, power distribution center, under the hood), to the space labeled 'fogs'... i didnt have fog lights, so there is no fuse

never went further than that, but i assume installing a fuse, relay, switch, & the fogs with the other half of the plug, & u can use that wiring

Were the options usually wired into the chassi even if it didnt have the option? Ive noticed a few strange leads on my xj and it makes me wonder. Mine didnt come w a rear wiper and a few other simple options
