mines runs at about 210 but when i get on the trails it goes above it and i let it cool down and then it will go back up, any ideas why it might be doing that?

as of lately its trying to run over half. specially up hill, shoots way up there. i have ta run the heat on 100 degree days to help cool down. thought bout taking the hood off and blasting it couple times with a 12g to make it run cooler.
My 98 runs a shade below 210, except in traffic. Then it runs a shade above. I don't really use the AC, unless someone in the Jeep whines about the heat (wife). It is the factory gauge, so I don't know how accurate it is. Thought about one of those coolent additives, but haven't tried it in the Jeep. I use them in my Supermoto though.

Sounds like its getting plugged up internally.
XJ's have a very small radiator to start with and it doesn't take alot to restrict
flow and cause a heat issue.
Its cheaper than replacing a head or an engine.
Mine stays at 180 till I hit traffic are trails than it shots up I been needing to replace my fans but havent did it yet cause I mostly drive to work and back witch doesn't cause any issues but yea after I replace my fan I have 2 fans to put in the grill one sucker one blower and I also got hood vents I'm hoping once all that is taking care of it stays at 180 all the time

Mine runs just a shade below 210° under highway driving (70-75 mph) and when I stop down in town it bumps an equal amount beyond 210°. Don't run the AC much beyond 1 or 2 on the fan speed.
Still may up for the DPG/CSF kit. Overkill, but I attribute it to a carry over from my obsession with cooling my desktop PCs.
