mines runs at about 210 but when i get on the trails it goes above it and i let it cool down and then it will go back up, any ideas why it might be doing that?

as of lately its trying to run over half. specially up hill, shoots way up there. i have ta run the heat on 100 degree days to help cool down. thought bout taking the hood off and blasting it couple times with a 12g to make it run cooler.

My 98 runs a shade below 210, except in traffic. Then it runs a shade above. I don't really use the AC, unless someone in the Jeep whines about the heat (wife). It is the factory gauge, so I don't know how accurate it is. Thought about one of those coolent additives, but haven't tried it in the Jeep. I use them in my Supermoto though.

REplace the radiator.
Sounds like its getting plugged up internally.
XJ's have a very small radiator to start with and it doesn't take alot to restrict
flow and cause a heat issue.
Its cheaper than replacing a head or an engine.

Hey man I was reading over the thermostat blog and I came across your posting about a aftermarket upgraded thermostat. What brand of thermostat did you get? Do you think its accurate?

210, it went over one time, when the water pump went out. $50 dollars and 3 hours later she was back on the road and she hasn't passed 210 since.

My 98 runs at 210 all the time. Slightly less if I kick on my electric fan.

Mine runs just a shade below 210° under highway driving (70-75 mph) and when I stop down in town it bumps an equal amount beyond 210°. Don't run the AC much beyond 1 or 2 on the fan speed.

Still may up for the DPG/CSF kit. Overkill, but I attribute it to a carry over from my obsession with cooling my desktop PCs.
