When i got my jeep it had a sunroof in it and the headliner was completely messed up and water-logged.

I tore the fabric out and people say theres headliner board above it...wellll there is, in my cargo area and thats it.

What should i do? I cant go in any junkyards because im not 18, anyone have some creative ideas?

Im sure its been covered. 3M makes some awsome spray adhesive. Im lazy. Im taking mine to a pro shop.

 

Its been covered for people with the headliner board still in tact. I dont have a headliner board that the fabric can glue to.

 

I havent dealt with a sun roof version. You could always phone a friend and get a regular board and cut the hole out. Use card board as a pattern to cut the hole.

 

I did something similar on my 81 Z28. I ran across a Berlinetta in the junkyard with exactly the same color interior as my car. The headliner was perfect. I got it out, too it home and then cut it out for the t-tops. Yeah, I didn't recover it but I did cut it to fit.

 

Thats also another problem, How the hell is the stuff stuck to the roof? I took the sun roof motor completely out and sealed up the sunroof itself so its non functional besideds a window in my roof.

I bought standard headliner material (thin cloth with a foam backing) at a local store that sells material - all kinds of cloth, vinyl, etc. for making clothes, covering furniture, etc) and a spray can of glue made by 3M.

Buy two cans. I bought a big can and it was not enough. I had to get a second can. There are a couple different kinds and I can't say which is better. One kind comes out like a clear spray paint and the second comes out of the can looking like that silly string stuff the kids play with. Both worked to glue the new material to the old head liner board.

Be sure you get all the old foam/material off the headliner board and wipe it off to remove dust/dirt first so the new glue and headliner material stick to the board real well.

 

Dont know if theyll work for you though. get those pics up.

Use 3M #76 only. OR, Advance Auto sells a Permatex brand headliner glue and it is 3M #76 in a Permatex can. Both look like silly string.

3M #77 will not hold for long - won't withstand the high temperatures. #76 is designed for this...and it is better to work with.

I just did my headliner three days ago. There are instructions on the WLS Headliners website on how to rebuild the substrate.

Yeah i did kind of a shi**y job sealing my sunroof (dang gravity). But this is what im working with.

 

The Junkyards in my local area require you to be 16 and older. Just call around to different ones. Maybe you will get lucky.

Also if you call ahead and tell them the situation. Most will go pull a headliner for you and sell it to ya at the front office. I bet they would rather do that than tell ya you can't buy nothing here lol.

 

Ive called all the ones remotely close, you have to be 18 or get charged out the as* ($1200 for a stock 8.8/8.25!!)

The thing is with that, If THEY pull it itll cost me 500% more then if i could go in there and pull it. The pull-a-part here you have to be 18 and the other JY's are crappy and either charge way too much or i cant go in. (ones closing and has nothing but a ponitac grand am and a 80's chevy dually left)

 

dont you know someone who is 18 or older that can go with you? friend or relative?
