Yes, There were no rings. Someone said, that heating would have helped.

There is always something holding the U-joint cap. Never only a press fit. With the ear hot, and a cap right out of the freezer they go easy. (I usually just warm up the ear a little, cold they can really seize up)

Default Bent but not broken...

Don't be alarmed. You do not need to replace that stub shaft simply because the yoke ear is bent. They are made of iron and can be straightened - unless that ear has a crack. I have replaced mine at-least a half dozen times by now and have bent yoke ears on a couple of occasions. They were easily straightened and restored to service each time. Get thee to thy bench vice and apply thine good eye and a BFH until straight enuff then reset your new u-joint to that assembly.
