Default what oil are you using?

when i bought my jeep the guy told me he used mobil one in my jeep. I did a oil change the other day and did not see the point of buying expensive oil if it leaks it lol. I always had the " lifter chatter" from time to time. seems now that i used 10w30 it chatters a little more offen. what oil do you all use to maybe improve the issue?

I use 4.4L of 10w30 and usually drop a little 5w20 in there.

Why do you mix 5-20 with 10-30?
I use Rotella T 10-30 in my stroker and in the old engine.

I use Royal Purple 10w-30, it costs alot more but I baby my XJ when it comes to fluids, plus I've tried it with that and Valvoline, it seems to run a little better with Royal Purple.

I put 5w20 in for the summer months and plain old 10w30 for the winter months. Better to have a thicker viscosity for those warm months.
I just use regular oil (no need to use an expensive synthetic on a 20yo vehicle)
I do add some form of additive (depending on what I find affordable at the time) like Slik50 or Wynn's.

I agree with bugsy, no sense in synthetic in a 20 year old half-wore-out truck.

Hijack: I see most of you folks are running 10w30. I usually run 10w40 Castrol in mine. Is the 10w30 better in a 4.0L?

You've got it backwards.

10W30 flows better and is less load on your oil pump.
It might get you slightly better gas mileage, too.

The "no need to run synthetic" comments crack me up. The ABSOLUTELY, MOST IMPORTANT piece of maintenance you can do to your vehicle is oil. Do you HONESTLY think $21.99 for a gallon of synthetic is a lot? Im always blown away by those anti-synthetic comments. Synthetic oil is better, period, no denying it. Nobody will ever convince me that spending $21.99 on oil is an unnecessary expense, even if I had to do it once a month. And there is no way running conventional oil is better than synthetic for my Jeep.

Older 4.0's used 10w40. newer ones use 10w30.

I use the cheepest 10w30 at Walmart and a Fram filter every 3000 miles.

250k on my '88 before the body gave out.
239K on my '99. Quiet Strong running motor!
