Default What is this noise? Gold Rim Trail, Moab

Hi everyone,

After riding some of the harder sections of Poison Spider, my XJ started making a horrible squeaking/creaking noise. I have driven it all around the trails outside of Moab, on highway trips, etc. It only makes the noise while I am going under ~20 mph.

Here is a video of it squeaking pretty bad on the Gold Rim Trail:

Has anyone heard this before?

I read a forum post about the most common problems with XJs:

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/yo...x-them-135869/

that said the back door latch needs to be greased—I greased it, but I am not having any luck.

Thanks!

Thanks Firestorm. I found this forum post that talks about leaf spring squeaking:

I will check them out tomorrow.

Mine sounds similar, maybe the "angry sparrow" chirp chirpy sound is a worn u-bolt or center bearing ?
I wish it were the leafs, will have to get it on a lift. I am getting vibes in 1st on 5spd. Worried a cheap AAL & rear blocks added to XJ will cause same shaft issues that can't be ignored, don't want to damage my axle when it comes crashing down.

Thanks euro944t. Those are some more things I will check. You definitely have a nice Jeep. I have too many dogs to haul around for a TJ, but they are awesome.

Firestorm 500 I am pretty sure you are right about the leaf springs stacks. I sprayed the leaf springs and all of the brackets with lubricant and it stopped (mostly).

My dogs definitely like wheeling, especially since I got my XJ. A couple of months ago I gutted the inside of my XJ, painted the tub with a rust stopper, and Monstalined the inside. I built a secure cargo area. The dogs have a custom made cage with a bed and plenty of water. I even tinted the windows with limo tint so keep it cool. Once June-July hit I mostly go up to higher altitude/forest where it is cooler.
