Default What are my options?

I've determined that my driveshaft is too short, thus causing a leak from my transfer case. It costs a good amount ($120) just to have it lengthened, so i was wondering what possibilities i have that cost less or the same with the same or better results? Quick replies greatly appreciated.

Unless the pics you have here of your rig are prior to a big lift, how did the driveshaft end up short?

Is it lifted? Are you running a SYE? Are you using the stock drive shaft or aftermarket? We can most likely help you, we just need more info.

It's a 98 xj with a 2 in. lift.

I swapped out the stock 242 for a 231, and when the driveshaft is in place it doesn't reach the inner ring of the rear output shaft seal, it only has about 1/2 of an inch of spline contact.

What about getting a drive shaft from a salvage yard that is longer.
maybe an XJ had the NP231 Stock.
Should be considerably cheaper than lengthening yours.

2''of lift should not have changed it enough to leak, but each Jeep can be a little different

what rear end is in your jeep. if it's the 8.25, it has a longer pinion and uses the shorter drive shaft. combine that with the stock 242 t-case and you have the shortest shaft available. so when you swap out for the 231, you will need a longer shaft. you can use one from either a 242 with the d35 or one from a 231 with the 8.25 or even 231 with d35 (longest shaft used).

or you can get a slip yoke from a yj. it will have a longer slip yoke and just replace that end. possibly.

Be careful of a yoke to long, it can stress the output shaft and cause vibrations.
