what makes it read
I have a 1991 XJ 4.0LHO 6cyl. 5 speed. I want my volt meter to read correctly. it sometimes reads 13volts, and sometimes it reads 10 volts. when I turn on the A/C she drops down allot. I have 13.8 at the battery so I am sort of sure it is charging. what can I check, clean, wiggle or replace to get my volt meter reading correctly ?

I have the same problem. Someone mentioned that the voltmeter shares a common ground with several other items under the dash and corrosion on the terminal could cause it.
