Renix is easy. Do a few proven precautionary things and you're good to go. A few people on here are decent with them. I certainly wouldn't let rEnix scare me away.

Ok definitely getting some amazing help from you guys. One more round of questions from me to help me out!

What's the lifetime of these vehicles? As said, I'm in AZ so rust usually is not an issue. What kind of mileage out of the 4.0L should I expect? I have no issues with older vehicles (I kinda like them compared to all the lifted Caddys with rims out here). For some reason I keep finding jeeps that are fairly cheap! Is there a reason for this or are these just sleeper, good bang for the buck vehicles?

I think a better way of saying it is my 2.4L '87 carbeurated pickup is worth more than the 4.0L Cherokees in similar condition and I can't figure out why...

Mileage sucks and I think that's why they're cheap.

They last forever, but suck up soooo much gas.

The thing is, that little four banger in my truck isn't much better if at all... low 20's, high teens for mileage. It'll be a DD and used for groceries and play, but I live like 5 miles from work and do most of my commuting on a motorcycle...

If you aren't worried about commuting, I would get an XJ with a nice 4.0. If you don't drive that much it won't eat your paycheck. Maybe $40 a week if you have a heavier foot. I drove to school on hilly country roads for 7 miles one way and put $30 in about once a week, and I drove like a grandpa. Now that I graduated I don't drive as much so it's not so bad anymore. I average about 13mpg.

Also, the manual tranny helps a little with mileage. I've heard of guys getting 22 highway out of some.

x2! When I car faxed both Jeeps I bought I found pre '91 failed smog almost everytime at some point. Not to mention fuel injection is much better offroading.

Just looked at an '88 yesterday with a renix system- it was FI, just passed emissions for two years...

That is a nice purdy xj, but where I live (SLC), that shouldnt be listed for over 2,000. Just be careful with how much you spend on the truck, because we all know youre going to be buying sensors left and right for it.

Dude seems to know his stuff. Replaced a fuel circulation sensor or something like that, had a spare like rotor sensor or something... we went through a lot so I can't remember the details. Good (and even) compression in all cylinders, tow package,

You won't be buying all that many sensors if you learn how to test them. Most prone to failure are TPS and CPS. Most problems with Renix was with their grounding system. Easily remedied right out of the chute..
