I dont disagree with 5w40, use what works best for your application. We all have different mileage and operating conditions.
Haha well I figured it was because you ran the competition, but I mean is there anything bad about Rotella? Like I said I would buy the Amsoil, but since its not easily found around here I'm looking for the next best thing.

also why is the zinc such a issue with th ejeep and does this pertain to me living in s fla temps 50 to 100 degrees range lots of humidity
The oil drip is normal. Its just oil draining back into the pan. Zinc is for the flat tappet cam and lifters in the I6 4.0l engine, helps to reduce wear.

No problems with Rotella. Lots of good reviews from 4.0l owners. I just run Amsoil becasue I have a close local rep.

Good enough for cold starts but thick enough to get pretty good pressure when hot.
just an FYI in my expirence, if you buy the preferred customer discount for 10 bucks you actually get amsoil cheaper then buying from a store. I spent 10 bucks and saved 15 over the price from the autoparts store ordering it online. I run 10w40 all year long. We get temps as low as -30.

See what you have local and go from there. Both are good oil.

That question was meant for xjrev10. He lives in MN.

No need for Royal Purple in the 4.0l. Its not a power house. I run Royal Purple in the Mustang but only cuz tenths of a sec make a difference in the 1/4 mile.

Yep. I do have other vehicles to drive in the winter but i have no problems with the amsoil. No Royal Purple in 4.0s!!! Anytime you get a different oil for your jeep. make sure it has good zinc content!

I have Valvoline max life 10-40 in mine...I think. It was a while ago since I changed it.

also I heard great things about Rotella. I used it in my Mercedes and it was great.

I agree that what kind of oil you use depends mostly on all the different aspects of your driving. How you drive, climate, mileage etc.

my coolant is all messed up right now because I have not yet drained and refilled it myself yet.

as for my differentials. I picked up basic napa brand premium performance gear oil
80w 85w 90 .... I know its strange it has the 3 numbers but that's what is on the bottles. says it's good for both regular and limited slip diffs so I grabbed it.

For plugs, Champion Copper core. NGK's work well on the 97+ (atleast thats what I have read).

Rotella is commonly used in hard working engines like diesel's/industrial.
also over on the KZ forum (older street bike) they run it in the high-revving inline fours. (I own a KZ650)
I would guess its good enough for our jeeps!
I happen to be running AMSOIL right now, I wanted to try it.

Plugs? Copper won't last as long as platinum, but unless you have an after-market ignition I.E. "msd" ect, you probably won't notice a performance difference anyway.
Don't quote me on this though...lol

I wouldn't use AMSOIL in anything I own.. Its expensive junk. The place I work at uses it. Then again, they use Wagner Thermoquiets... JUNK

Castrol Syntec. 10w30. 1700 miles and it still looks as clean as it came out of the bottle.
Coolant, well thats where my employer gets the good stuff.. Its called "vanilla". Ph balanced. Non conductive. Pre-loaded with rust inhibitors. Kind of looks like thicker water..
Trans fluid, I'm not at that point... Most likely Castrol regular Dextron III..
T-case, Motorcraft Dextron.. I have 1/2 case of it left from when the ford dealership i worked at closed..

and I havent done anything with the diffs yet..

Currently:
Oil: Pennszoil Platinum 10-30.
Diffs: Royal purple. 70-90 front 75-140 rear
Transfer case: Pennszoil atf
Coolant: Prestone
Auto trans: havent changed it.

Definatly thinking about Rotella T syn 5-40 oil.
Have been using it for years in my Bronco 2. Great stuff! Good bang for the buck.
Prolly end up going with Rotella in the diffs too.
Rotella is good stuff!
