So before i start working on my new to me 2001 XJ, i was looking at jacks and jack stands and aside form the $200+ hydraulic ones, they seem to me that they don't extend high enough for me to say, change a tire. HI-Lift jacks seem a bit excessive for on-road/driveway use. I also may be reading the lift of this one incorrectly.. when it says 21" lift does that mean from the floor or the top of the jack..i am assuming the floor, but correct me if im wrong! ... My XJ is stock suspension/not lifted with 235/75/15 tires on 15x8wheels. i was thinking i could put some wood or brick or both under the jack to make it a little taller, but dunno if thats really a good idea.
The previous owner told me the right rear bearing was starting to go, so i suspect the scraping noise i am hearing is likely that. so id like to change that, but want to make sure i get the right jack/ jack stands to allow me to get the wheels off lol. I am not a fan of scissor jacks..they seem...unstable to me, but again, if i am wrong, correct me! Anywho, Trying to keep costs down so i can afford the parts for the fix lol. But of course i dont want utter garbage either. I was looking at this but it seems like its top height is only 1" higher than the car itself is. Jeebus sorry the pic is gigantic lol Any guidance would be great! Thanks in advance!
I've got a set of the 3ton Daytona Jack stands and the 1.5ton Daytona Aluminum floor jack from Harbor Freight. Works great for everything I've worked on.
You can often find the Jackstands and the 3ton daytona jack on sale. Currently they're $35 and $120 with the onsite coupons. I would have gotten the 3 ton jack but I have a bad back and the smaller aluminum one made more sense for me.
