Default Proper Jack/Jack Stand Placement

Anybody know the proper placement for jacking up the XJ, and where some good spots for placing the jack stands? I want maximum safety first, and of course, I do not want to damage any part of the vehicle. I use a floor jack.

Also, I am looking to buy another floor jack of the smaller type to carry in the car. When I shop around and look at the specs, how high must the thing go to safley raise the XJ high enough to change a tire.

No extremes - all stock, just looking for some basic information.

Thanks!

Jack from the axles. Stands on the axle tubes or frame rails. On the frame fronts just behind the LCA mounts, rear just in front of the spring mounts

To jack up the rear I put the jack under the diff and put the jack stands closest to the wheels as you can. For the front I put the jack in the middle of the axle, just left of the diff, and put the jack stands between the LCA mounts and swap bar bracket if it fits. If you just want to jack up one side to change the wheel you can put the jack under the LCA mount.

For in the car and tire changes, I use the stock bottle jack or 3 ton bottle jack. If you jack from the axle you only need to go until the tire clears the ground, 2"-3" of jacking.
