what the heck is this thing on my dash. it doesnt light up or do anything..

 

That's your stock clock. It probably burnt out or came unplugged if it isn't working, or the fuse is out (thought I think your stereo is on the same fuse). Even though the time is only displayed in that top part, the entire assembly is the clock.

 

so the top little screen is the clock which i figured but the big screen under it and the little screen on the bottom is nothing?

thats weird that they would make it look like its something

 

Yeah, if you pull it out of there you'll see the entire thing is the circuit board for the clock. Seems plenty of space for a dumb clock. I've seen just a blank cover for that spot in some junkyards, so if you find one of those you could throw switches or a gauge in there.

on my 96 that is where all my notifications come up at.( check engine, 4x4, low washer fluid, etc.)

 

thats where you mount aux switch. never actually seen a working clock there.

 

I put my after market cruise control there eventually i want to put my bar lights on it too

 

Thats where the clock goes, Models without the clock get a blockoff plate.
Renix models had a "system sentry" that went there, it was pretty cool.

mine works too and its and 89. It never gets off.

yep mine too... but i had to rewire it up with the radio... lol

 

Mine has just a plate. My dads has a working clock but the bulb is burnt out.
