Default What the heck is this?

I've been around jeeps for quite a few years now and I had a friend send me a photo that stumped me. What is this on the headliner? Looks like some kind of sensor.

It's a factory keyless entry system receiver.

You could just go to a dealer and pay a crap ton for them to program a new remote or two. Some locksmiths can do it too. But it wouldn't take long.

I have keyless entry and not one of these (2001). Is this the "old school" version?

Later models ('97 and later?) have them concealed in the dome light over the front seats. I know that's where mine is in my '99.

That sounds more like it, kinda like GM's "Onstar" oh wait...Jeep/GM hmm.

But that is not what it is though, its too old to have that tech, even though our government has had Iphone tech since the last 40's. I'm still not sure what it is either.

No, it isn't. It's the older-style (IR) sensor.
