It's the receiver for the factory remote door lock mechanism. get ahold of Chrysler, ask for a build sheet to see if it had remote start too. Replacement key fobs are about the same price as a new remote start/keyless entry installed when you add in the programming. So if you wanna spend it, go for it. You might find a set cheaper than the dealer will sell them to you for on ebay if you search, but you still need the programmed.

I dont think any xj came factory with remote start. Thats usually an option added by the dealer.
