Default What happens if...?

i took of the Cylinder Head out of my 4.0L and saw the beauty of a engine block and decided to turn the crank pulley to see how the pistons work???
is it bad, or meaningless?
everybody does it?
did i mess up with timing???

i'm worried that when i was admiring the pistons, i was also messing with the timing ...

will it be fine or not?
thanks everyone.

You're fine. If you DID have a distributor and it was out, head or no, of course then you would need to"index?" it. I believe the coil pack just uses black magic, not to worry.

You have been possessed by the magic of the machine. You are now doomed to a life of empty pockets, barren wallets and angry women as you strive to satisfy the never ending urge to make it faster, better, higher.

Isn't life GREAT!!!!!

When I had my head off of my 90 I turned the motor over so I could clean the crud off the pistons. Everything turned out ok when I put everything back together. I think the only time you need to be concerned is when your working on an engine with an overhead cam (ohc) where to dead center is an issue. On these Jeep pushrod motors I don't think it makes any difference about tdc.

after staring at the pistons i decided to clean them up a bit like you did, then do more staring.
