What grade of motor oil ?

14+ year old info.......hummm. It's ok, but there's better info/choices out there.
Always use/choose 5W30 over 10W30. They r the same grade/weight/viscosity (30) at normal operating temp. 5W30 will flow quicker to the top of the motor than 10W30 when oil is below operating temp.

We're talking about an engine with technology inside it from the 50's.
I would think just about ANY weight of oil will make our 4.0's happy.
If you live in an area with extreme temperatures then get the appropriate grade.

Canola oil... Peanut is too thick, freezes easily. Know your Crisco!
The original 2000 owners manual calls out 5w30 below freezing and "prefers" 10w30 above freezing. Oil has changed in the last 14 years, starting as late as 2005 all the 4.0L manuals reflected that and specified 5w30 as the preferred lubricant across all temperature ranges, with 10w30 only being "acceptable".
If you wanna geek out there's a thread in ny signature.
