Default What to get? 4.7L stroker or regear?

ok i have a hard decision and need others opinions.
I have a buddy who wants to sell a 4.7 L stroker he built.
I just saved enough cash to regear.
now i have a dilema.
should I regear? if so to what gear? (1998 auto)
or should i buy the stroker...keep in mind i just put in a rebuilt 4.0...
Im leaning towards regearing....

how much is he selling the stroker for? do you trust his work? what gas does it run on, or do you care? lots of questions to ask yourself.

you'll probably want to regear at some point no matter what(and i would suggest 4.10 for an auto and 32s, others might say go 4.56), so the question is do you want or need the extra 100 ponies and added torque the stroker gives? and if you do, are you willing to live with stock gearing until you save up enough again?

ultimately it is your decision.

Regear... but if you plan on lifting it a little more or trimming to fit something like 33's or bigger (eventually) I would go 4.88 cause you'll prob save time and money down the road. I think 4.56 would be perfect for you if you plan on leaving it as is.

No matter what eng. you're going to regear anyway so stick to your plan

Regearing will be more bang for the buck, but 4.11 is not enough, go 4.56 or 4.88. the stroker is only going to get you 20-30 hp. 4.56 would get the same benifit.

whats the advantage of 4.56's over 4.11's? I dont want to lose my highway speeds....
educate me on gearing

he wants $1500, and ya i trust his work. He says it runs on regular unleaded, but it has a bad lifter tick i dont really want to deal with
im really happy with my engine now, and if i were to have a stroker i would want to build it myself....hmmm i dunno.
I really just want the speed back I lost from goin with bigger tires....65 on the highway blows.

lol typin slow tonight. census says regear. ok.
so 4.11 isnt enough, why is that?
and if i go 4.56 or 4.88 what gain will i see? and what top speed will i lose?
this is my DD and road trip rig so i dont wanna have crazy torque and no highway speeds.

4.10s will be closest to stock, if you go with 4.56s it will give you a little more torque, but you will run higher RPMs to maintain highway speeds. If you plan on going to larger tires, go with at least 4.56s, but if you're going to stay with the 32s, 4.10s would prolly be best. HTH!!

With 32.s and maybe even the 33.s Id go with the 4.10's, it will be better on the Highway and they are a lot stronger then the 4.88's, What are you running now? I have 4.56 with detroit locker in the rear in my CJ-7 and would rather have the 4.10's sometimes (9" Ford & Standerd Trans).
I vote for the 4.10 with a Detroit or ARB Locker.

Then if you need more power, well you know now you have an reason to go after the motor!
