Default What else???

i'm anxious to do something else to my Jeep and don't know where to start. i know when i get paid i wanna get a tune up and alignment and any other routine thing i can think of. i know i want to eventually get a little lift when i get some more money. (nothing more than 2") so far i've replaced most of the grill and lights and changed out the valve cover. i just really enjoy working on it and want more to do.

I do routine maintenance when i have nothing to actually DO and feel like wrenching. For instance, one time i took the hubs off and pulled both axle shafts out to test the u-joints and make sure they were good. One was actually bad too. It was a one hour job but satisfied my craving.

Drain and refill fluids if you want to. Diffs, oil, transfer case, tranny. It's a fun job. Makes your jeep happy.

Allighnments are very easy to do yourself, unless you have bad components, I would say save your money and dont be afraid to do it yourself. If you cant figure it out then take it in.

The 4.0L swap will not be an easy job. The firewall needs to be massaged and the ECU and harness needs to come with the donor motor. Stay in the same year group. You will be easier to swap in a Renix era engine than the OBD stuff. It has minimal electronics and is not OBD compatable.
If it were me I would swap in a SBC after beefing up the frame/unibody with a turbo 400 and a D300 t/c. You would have a pretty unique Jeep. It has all been done before but it would be pretty rare in your particular town.

Put SBCs in CJs and a couple of SJs but never in an XJ but it can be done. There are more than one already out there they are just not too many. My second choice would be an Isusu Diesel in an XJ but that really gets complicated.

Wouldnt recommend it, there just isnt enough cooling surface area for a big block in the XJ.

that would be a blast until you twisted the unibody up like a barbed wire fence.

Well of course you need the knowledge and fab skills to pull off something like this, The above has been addressed and it has been ran a few years now with few issues

but i really dont know what most of that stuff is Blue (renix, SBC, turbo 400 and dana300 t/c) if you want you could explain im really down for anything right now i just need some ideas and i guess obviously some money too (always helps). i would definetly like swapping out to a 4.0 sometime but tell me more about what an SBC is and i might consider that.
