168K might be just broken in for a 4.0.....If a wet/dry compression test came up good it might work OK for another 100K. Can we hear the $100 engine run?

I waiting on an email back from him. I'm not saying dropping that engine in right away, i'm talking about a shop rebuilding it so it's as good as new but having my jeep running until they are ready to swap them. I figure it would be cheaper that way then to have them deal with my jeep and my engine, would be more labor taking it out and working on it rather than just swap in an engine that's already out for them.

Just me, if the compression looked good on that 90 engine, I might do the head, and just slap some rod inserts in it since its out, and run it.

If it has that many less miles, probably......... "Rebuild" and "overhaul" I think are distinctly different terms. A Rebuild would involve measuring things and seeing that they are within specifications. An over-haul, I think is the full boat, cam/lifters, oil pump, bore for oversize pistons yada yada.

Yea I'll probably take it to a shop, tell them to make sure it's in perfect running order. Here's the link to the ad. http://delaware.craigslist.org/pts/4435562788.html it's pretty dirty, but I would think they can swap off the good parts from mine over to there to keep costs down while not effecting the functionality.

There's a guy around by me selling a 90' 168,000 miles renix engine for just $100 with everything but the wiring harness. Even has a new filter (won't use obviously), new distrubtor cap and wires, and the motor mounts. My question is, if i bought this, would it be cheaper to have a shop rebuild that engine and toss it in when they're done rather than leave my jeep there and have them put mine together?

Talked to the guy, he said that it ran perfectly fine before removing and didn't see any leaks or issues when removing it. He's 100% confident that it would be good direct-bolt on in the condition it's in and he's done several swaps/rebuilds before. Looks like i'm going to pick it up soonish. Anyone know the costs of the engine to be swapped? Looking like the only gasket it'll need will be a new header gasket.
