what is this box?
I will try to be clear here. Towards the back under the jeep there is a black box covered with a metal plate that has some hoses conected to it. The hoses are coming from the front of the jeep. I dont know what it is and I am having a hard time finding in online. It is on the driver side. There is what looks like a missing hose in the middle of the box. I attached a picture to see if anyone recocnize it. Shoud there be a hose connected to this leading to something?

it appears online that this port is supposed to be open like this. I suppose its some sort of pressure relief port. Thanks for the reply, that help me at least research it better. Guess I will keep hunting for the leak.

I am bringing this back to life because while I was looking around at this box today I decided to pull the hoses and check for any torn connectors. What I realized is the hose connected at the bottom of the picture was actually connected to a bolt and I thought that it has to be connected to something other than a bolt. It looks just like the bolt at the top of the picture. Well I still have not found out what that box is for but it appears to connect to the emissions system in some way so I went ahead and attached it back to the exposed plug you see in the middle. I thought it could be the reason for my p0455. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I would hate and love at the same time to think that was my problem all along. I disconnected my negative cable to reset and see if that will solve my problem.

Ok, so I realized its the evap canister from the diagram from the service manual, what I cant find is a photo of it to see that hose connected to that spot but I am going to go on my assumptions and say that this is supposed to be connected but I would appreciate it if someone could help me out and just peak under the drive side near the rear tire and see what this looks like for me.
Thanks a ton

How many of the hose connections are open? If that is the charchol canister there should be 1 open to air. Mine is mounted under the front bumper, an doesn't look like yours. That is a much better place for it , IMO.

none are open but it would not make sense for that one pvc connection to be pluged into a bolt. I cant get on the other side to see if there are any open ports. There is a purge line that runs to the engine compartment I believe it comes from the canister.
