what axle will bolt right up?
I just bought a 98 xj and it was hit on the pass front. that was fixed, I found new bags for it, don't think I'll ever put them in, but now it was time for alighnment. and the shop said my front axle is bent and they could get the parts and install for 1600.00, but I 've found all kind of complete 30's out there for alot less, but I don't want to do alot af fabricating or buying extra parts to make the wrong year fit. It's going to be a street truck for momma until it starts to rust in acouple of years. What will fit? I weld for a living so I'm not to worried about shock mount issues and minor stuff like that, but I don't want to get new wheels, change driveshaft ends, etc. Please help. Sorry I made this so drawn out.

Any D30 out of an 84-99 XJ will be a direct identical swap. The 00-01 will be a Low Pinion version but will bolt right up. You should be able to use your driveshaft and such on any of the axles from 84-99..If you get an older D30 say pre 95 it will come with the smaller ujoint axle shafts but you can swap those out with your axle shafts if they aren't bent.

try to stick with 97-99 as the front caliper mounts vary in previous years. 00-01 are both low pinion.
if you have an auto, make sure you get one from an auto. same goes for stick.
that way you have a better chance of matching gears.
but you should check your axle gear ratio just so you know what you're looking for.
also if you have ABS or not.
all other mounts, spring perches, etc will be the same.

Stick with the 97+ years for your donor axle if you can. You defintely want a 92+ because most 91 and older XJs have the 2 piece right side axle with the vacuum disconnect. You don't want this.
