It came with my 97 xj 4.0 limited, but i don't know for sure what its for ?

I have a spot in the roof center consol, that says disarm security, but nothing happens when i hold the brick up to it.

Is it not a key fob? With Lock/Unlock buttons on it?

Oh that's not good.... when you hold that up to the roof the flux capacitor is suppose to turn on, & the back to the future screen flips down! Those things can get spendy!!!! Lol

Looks like a key chain to me.

It's a key ring or it might be part of a aftermarket alarm / start inhibitor.

I have something like that on one of my other cars as well. In essence a passive device, who's presence gets picked up by a sensor (coil) mounted somewhere near the ignition key. Without it the car won't start.

do random garage doors go up when you drive around suburban areas? hehe

If the jeep starts and runs with the fob a good distance away, I would consider it unnecessary drag and either paint it hot rod green and use it for interior decoration or just toss it in the garbage. Actually, maybe toss it in the glove box instead of the trash, just in-case!
