What 4.0 will interchange with my 1999?
First off, new to the forum! I am finally a jeep owner! Just have to get it running first, lmao!
My father-in-law's jeep had the motor seize up, and he was going to just take it to the scrap yard. HELL NO! Body is in perfect shape, and there isn't a tear or crack anywhere in the interior. It's just pretty dirty inside and out, but a few hours of detail work will smooth that wrinkle. Long story short, I purchased a 1999, 2 door, 4x4, manual Jeep Cherokee for 200 big ones!
I am trying to figure out if I am stuck with a '99 model of 4.0, or do I have any options of new models with possibly less miles for an engine replacement?
Thank you for any input given. I appreciate it very much!

in 00 they changed to a distributorless design. it is possible to swap in a newer motor but hardly worth it imho. ur better off finding a 99 or older and throw that in there. would make ur life easier

Yeah, I'm looking pretty heavy into a remanufactured short if I can't find one that's reasonable. I just want to get it back on the road a.s.a.p. without spending a fortune right off bat, but I dont want to put in somethin with 100+ on it either, hoping that the previous owner of that one took somewhat care of it, lol. It will all be well worth it though.
