Like the above post stated, It is the keyless entry sensor and it works off the "infra-red" style keyfob (remote). If you are looking on e-bay or other web sites make sure the remote states "infra-red" and not the new radio wave based remote. The infra-red remote is a short distance and usually needs to be in-line with the dome sensor.
The remote usually only have 2 buttons (lock/unlock) and are easy to program (don't require the dealer to program). Auto-Zone sells remotes and there is a website "remotes4less" and the cost is somewhere around $65. The dealer sells the remote for $125 or more.

Mine has it - little black plastic dome up by the sun visors in the middle. That is the remote entry sesor - mine is a 95. Looking for a remote FOB for mine but they are all crazy expensive. :-(

Does anyone know of where to get cheaper fobs? or is it just something we have to deal with on older vehicles? My dad just got 1 for his 07 silverado for 15-20 bucks..
They really dont give you the programmable instructions with the 60 dollar fob? i think that is kind of sleazey
